Celebrating the children in our fostering community – #fosteringmoments

Life in foster care isn’t always easy. Many looked after children have had difficult experiences and it is the job of our foster carers to help them to feel safe and loved. When you are supporting children to have a happy childhood, sometimes the small moments mean the most.

Here at Focus Foster Care, our foster carers work hard to embrace childhoods and help young people to thrive. In this blog post, we are sharing some of the recent small – but big! – moments experienced by the children in our community.

Celebrating children in foster care

Foster carers help children to learn new skills and provide a space for fun and play at the same time. Here is T* making homemade pizza with her foster carers recently.

H* has been having fun in the kitchen recently too. Look at these amazing Bluey cupcakes she made with the help of her foster carer.

Spending time outdoors is a great way for foster families to bond. Time in nature provides children with opportunities to play, explore and grow their confidence. At Focus, we arrange regular days out for our fostering families. These meets up provide carers a chance to speak to people who know what fostering is really like and offer children the chance to make new friends.

Our foster carers spend a lot of time enjoying outdoor activities with the children in their care, and our social workers join in on the fun sometimes too! Above you can see our social worker Jenna enjoying a day out with T*. We are also overjoyed to share this photo of F* and J* enjoying their first ever picnic in the park.

Children in foster care should never be underestimated. When provided with a safe home and the support needed to reach their goals, looked after children can achieve amazing things! Recently, S* has been having sewing lessons from her foster carer. She has learnt how to use a sewing machine and made her first teddy bear. We are also proud of A* who passed her recent dance exam and received lots of positive feedback.

Life in foster care is often full of change. Children move into a new home, adjust to their new ‘family life’ and sometimes need to change school too. Our foster carers work hard to support children through all of these big changes, but the resilience of looked after children and young people should never be overlooked. T* started a new school back in August and has settled in amazingly. We asked T* how she felt about changing school and she said, “I’m having the best time and I am thankful of every day’.

The foster care experience can be full of highs and lows. While there are challenging moments, there are plenty of moments full of joy and fun too!
