Meet the Focus Foster Care social worker – Alice

My name is Alice Kariuki, I joined the Focus Foster Care team in November 2021 as a Student Social Worker from Birmingham City University, therefore completing my final year placement at Focus Foster Care.

Focus Foster Care has been very welcoming and supportive to me since I joined the team. The team works as a family, supporting and caring for one another especially during these unprecedented times of COVID-19, to ensure everyone feels safe and well supported. I love the passion the team has in working with their carers and the young people in their care, they always go above and beyond to offer help and support to everyone.

So far, I have learned that foster carers help make change in young people’s lives. I have seen how foster carers passionately support children and young people in their care to achieve their best potential, and many times, the outcome is exceptional. I wish to encourage all potential Foster Carers to know that Focus Foster Care will support them fully in their career as carers to help change many lives.

Outside work, I am a mother of two teenage boys. I love spending time with them, taking them to various activities. I also love gardening where I grow my own vegetables and trying new recipes in the kitchen.

I am also a Youth Worker in my local Church and in another community organisation, where we do various activities with young people to support them with their identity, skills and future career progression.
