Meet The Fostering Panel – Selma

Before you can become a foster carer in the UK, your application must first be approved by a fostering panel. At Focus Foster Care, we are proud to have a panel made up of experienced and supportive individuals. Our panel members come from a variety of backgrounds and this ‘Meet The Panel’ series is your opportunity to get to know our diverse team.

If you are currently applying to foster with us at Focus Foster Care, or are thinking of doing so in the future, keep reading to ‘meet’ our fostering panel. Today, we are introducing you to our panel Chair, Selma…

Meet The Fostering Panel

Name: Selma Sendur Panel Chair

How long have you been on the fostering panel? I’m have been the Panel Chair here at Focus Foster Care since the agency became operational many years ago, and it has been a privilege to be involved in it’s growth.

Occupation: I am an independent social worker, with 30 years experience in children and families work. I have to admit that it has taken me this long to learn that I am not always right!! I love seeking out new ideas related to fostering, and I endeavour to keep up with the advances in our understanding of the impact of early experiences on children and young people.

What do you enjoy about working for Focus Foster Care? I value the compassion and thoughtfulness that Focus Foster Care staff invest in everyone they work with and I am impressed with how they make every effort to support their foster carers and all the children.

What is one important thing you have learnt about fostering since you joined Focus Foster care? I am often very touched by the exceptional care and commitment that our foster carers bestow upon the children they care for.

What are your hobbies and interests? Outside of work, my Turkish heritage reinforces my love of cooking, and I always join in when others are complaining about the weather here in the UK. When it comes to family life I seem to be relentlessly helpful so I end up looking after my three adorable grandchildren regularly as they insist on coming to our house to create mayhem. I enjoy walking, tending to the garden and to our allotment and also taking part in many artistic endeavours which involve making an absolute mess with my young grandchildren.
