Meet The Fostering Panel – Richard

To become a foster carer in the UK, applicants must first be approved by a fostering panel. Here at Focus Foster Care, we have a diverse group of individuals on our fostering panel. All of our members bring their own unique experiences to the process and play an essential role in welcoming new foster carers to our growing team.

If you are currently applying to foster with us, or are thinking of doing so in the future, this Meet The Panel blog series is your opportunity to meet everyone on our fostering panel. Today, we are introducing you to Richard.

Meet The Fostering Panel

Name: Richard Wood

Occupation: Semi retired. Currently sitting on other fostering panels for agencies in and around the Midlands. Also some freelance auctioneering work selling properties; livestock; farm equipment; antiques and household furniture by auction.

How long have you been on the Focus Fostering panel? Not long, a few months only.

What do you enjoy about working for Focus Fostering? Excellent lines of communication and very prompt responses to queries and questions.

What is one important thing have you learnt about fostering since joining Focus? Consistent training remains essential.

What are your hobbies and interests? I enjoy all sports and have had a season ticket – sad I know – with Birmingham City for more than 40 years. In the summer of 2024 I am walking, for charity, the length of the River Severn from it’s source in mid Wales to the estuary in Bristol. Approximately 16 miles a day for 14 consecutive days.
