Meet the team – Fiona Aristidou, social worker

Welcome back to Meet the Team, our monthly blog feature where you can get to know the people who work here at Focus Foster Care a little better. In our first post we introduced you to Kevin our registered manager, you can read all about him by clicking here. Today, our social worker Fiona is taking over. Our Meet the team features are here so you can get to know us all a bit better and, if you are considering becoming a foster carer with our independent fostering agency, hopefully you will feel more at ease about picking up the phone and having a chat with us. We are a small team, we are our own little family and we hope you enjoy getting to know us all. Now, over to Fiona…

Meet the Focus Foster Care social worker

My name is Fiona Aristidou and I am a Social Worker. I joined Focus Foster Care in a part time role in March 2018 as a Form F Assessor and then became full time in October 2018.

I love working for Focus. We are a small, dedicated team with a shared commitment to supporting our foster carers to nurture and care for vulnerable children in a positive way that helps every child to reach their potential and live happy, healthy fulfilled independent lives. We really are like a family and our foster carers and children are an extended part of the network.

I have been a social worker for 25 years and my posts have been within the children & families and fostering sectors. In my experience, the most important qualities in a foster carer are ‘stick-ability’ and resilience. While fostering is most certainly challenging and at times exhausting, what a privilege to be able to impact the life of a child and make a real difference where it is needed the most. I have never known anyone regret becoming a foster carer even when it hasn’t worked out the way they thought it would.

Outside of work, I am a mum of two gorgeous boys aged 18 and 16 years old and despite the eldest now being off at university, they both keep me busy. My hobbies are going to the gym and running and whilst I haven’t undertaken anything competitive now for several years, I do like to constantly set goals and challenge myself. I love to be by the sea and make good use of my brother’s second home in Highcliffe which has the most amazing sea views and is good for coastal walks. I am equally partial to be out in the remote countryside, inhaling peace and quiet. Other favourite things of mine are family summer holidays in Sunny Spain, and live music

There is a whole team of people who work at Focus Foster Care and make it the successful independent fostering agency it is today. We hope you enjoyed getting to know our social worker Fiona, be sure to come back to our blog soon to meet the rest of the team.
